State Bank ‘MPowers’ Westbury’s Future Workforce

On December 2, 2009, State Bank of Long Island continued its support of the MPowering Kids by providing a lively workshop for the MPowering Kids students who attend Westbury High School. State Bankers Thomas Regan, Sandra Weine and Marjory Giordani-Petion - provided a presentation that effectively explained how to use credit responsibly. The presentation clearly conveyed to the students that maintaining a healthy financial credit score is vital as they move into adulthood and seek housing, jobs and ownership of a vehicle. This exposure to warm, professional adult role models also offers the students a tangible context for their dreams of being first generation college students.

MPowering Kids is a non-profit charitable organization that provides after-school tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment and community service programs for motivated students in low-income communities. The MPowering Kids staff and volunteers work closely with students from fourth grade through their high school graduation, offering nine years of programs and opportunities to acquire the skills, habits and attitudes necessary to succeed in college and in life.
